A Revolutionary Controller

On Thursday (9/15) Nintendo revealed the Revoultion's controller.

LAYOUT
The "remote" controller has (listed from top to bottom): an on/off button, a directional pad, an 'A' button, 'Start', 'Home', and 'Select' buttons, an 'X' button, a 'Y' button, and indicator lights that tell you which contoller number you are. Also, on the back of the controller is a 'B' button. [picture]

FEATURES

  • 3D Pointing. Sensors understand up, down, left, right, forward and backward.
  • Tilt Sensitive. Controller can be rotated or rolled from side-to-side.
  • Buttons Included. Has a trigger on its backside, face buttons, and a D-Pad.
  • Multifunctional. Has an expansion port which can be used with different types of controller peripherals. Analog stick with two trigger buttons planned for left hand.
  • Wireless. Totally wire-free. Currently there are no details on the max distance, source or power, or otherwise.
  • Rumble Built-in. Included as a standard in all the controllers.

ADD-ONS
"Wide assortments of peripherals are possible, but thus far Nintendo has only officially confirmed two of them. The first is an analog stick/trigger unit that Nintendo has dubbed the "nunchuck-style controller." The second is a conventional controller cradle/shell. Nintendo has also indicated that it might like to explore other expansions. It used Donkey Kong style bongos and a light gun as examples." --IGN [read more] [picture]

THE VIRTUAL CONSOLE
"How will I be able to play NES, SNES, N64, and GameCube games?" you might ask. Well, Nintendo has announced that they are making a Classic Controller add-on that you'll be able to use for all your old-school games. You can turn the "remote" sideways to play NES games as well. And don't forget, you will be able to use your GameCube controller on the Revolution, so this should also solve this problem. [IGN mock-up controller]
